GRACE IS NOT A LICENSE TO SIN: Correcting The Errors Of The Gospel Preachers

GOSPEL TRACT SERIES: Correcting The Errors Of The Gospel Preachers

TRACT NO. 12
"GRACE IS NOT A LICENSE TO SIN"

"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;" - Titus 2:11-12
"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" - Romans 6:1-2

THE POPULAR ERROR

Today, grace is preached as freedom TO sin, not freedom FROM sin.
They say: "We are under grace, not under law! So you can dress anyhow, talk anyhow, live anyhow! God sees you through Christ, He doesn't see your sin! Once grace covers you, sin doesn't matter!"
Because of this twisted grace, fornication is now common in the choir. Sisters dress half-naked to church and say "God looks at the heart, not my dressing." Young people live together before marriage and say "We are under grace." Pastors commit adultery and say "Grace will cover me."
They have turned the grace of God into lasciviousness. Jude 1:4
This is not grace. This is disgrace. We must correct it.

THE BIBLICAL TRUTH

1. What is true grace? Grace teaches us to DENY sin.
Titus 2:11-12 does not say grace teaches us to CONTINUE in ungodliness. It says grace teaches us to DENY ungodliness and worldly lusts.
If your grace is teaching you to continue in mini-skirts, make-up like Jezebel, sagging trousers, lying, fraud, and fornication, that is NOT the grace of God. That is the grace of the devil.
True grace makes you holy.

2. Shall we continue in sin because we are under grace? GOD FORBID!
Paul asked the same question in Romans 6:1 and answered himself: GOD FORBID!
"What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid." - Romans 6:15
Being under grace does not mean lawlessness. It means God has given you power to keep His law by His Spirit.

3. Grace does not cover wilful sin, it empowers against sin.
Many quote Romans 6:14: "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."
They stop there. But read the next verse: It says should we then sin? God forbid! Grace means sin will NOT have dominion. If sin still dominates you, you are not under true grace.
Grace is like a medicine. Medicine is not a license to keep eating poison. Medicine is to cure you from poison.
Jesus came to save His people FROM their sins, not IN their sins. Matthew 1:21

4. If we continue in sin, grace will leave us.
"...Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee." - John 5:14
Jesus did not say "I have healed you by grace, you can continue in sin." He said "SIN NO MORE!"
The woman caught in adultery - Jesus said: "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." John 8:11
Grace says "Go and sin no more," not "Go and continue in sin because I have forgiven you."

5. The judgment for those who abuse grace is greater.
"Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?" - Hebrews 10:29
If you say "Because of grace I can sin," you are trampling on the blood of Jesus. You are insulting the Spirit of grace.

WHAT SHOULD WE PREACH?

Stop preaching: "Grace covers you, live anyhow!"
Start preaching: "Grace empowers you, live holy!"
Preach that grace is not freedom to sin. Grace is freedom from sin.
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." - Matthew 1:21
Preach that anyone who says he is under grace but lives in wilful sin is lying. 1 John 3:8-9 - "He that committeth sin is of the devil... Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin."
True children of God may fall into sin by mistake, but they do not CONTINUE in sin. They repent quickly.

A CALL TO TRUE GRACE
Are you using grace as an excuse to continue in fornication, lying, fraud, indecent dressing, pornography, and worldliness?
Repent! That is not grace. That is self-deception. True grace will make you hate sin.
Do you want the true grace that makes holy?
Pray with me:
"Lord Jesus, forgive me for abusing Your grace. I have used Your grace as license to continue in sin. Today I repent. Let Your true grace come into my heart and teach me to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. Give me power to live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world. I want to be free FROM sin, not free TO sin. Save me from my sins today. Amen."
