5 SIGNS THAT SOMEONE CLOSE TO YOU MAY BE APPROACHING THE END OF THEIR JOURNEY
This is a very sensitive topic. Please read this with wisdom, not fear.
I am not saying you should suspect everyone around you will die.
But as a Pastor who has sat with many families, there are patterns I have seen that God sometimes allows us to notice so we can love them better, pray for them, reconcile, and prepare — not to panic.
If you see these, don't use it to pronounce death. Use it to show more love, call the doctor, and commit them to God.
1. THEY BEGIN TO WITHDRAW AND SAY STRANGE GOODBYE WORDS.
They suddenly start saying, "Take care of yourself," "Forgive me for everything," "I have finished my work," "I am tired, I want to go home" — even when home is not far.
They withdraw from people they love. They sleep more. They no longer enjoy things they used to love.
Sometimes it's depression — but sometimes it's their spirit sensing a transition. Don't ignore it. Don't say "stop saying that." Sit with them. Ask, "What do you mean?" Pray with them. Make peace quickly.
2. THEIR BODY BEGINS TO SHUT DOWN SLOWLY — EVEN DOCTORS CANNOT EXPLAIN IT FULLY.
You notice:
- Eating reduces drastically. Even favorite food, no appetite.
- They sleep almost all day, hard to wake.
- Legs and hands become very cold, pale.
- Breathing changes — sometimes very slow, sometimes fast and noisy.
- They get confused, don't recognize people sometimes.
If an elderly or very sick person begins to show this, don't just say "it's spiritual attack." Call a doctor immediately, get proper medical evaluation. Many times it's the body getting weak.
But love them now. Don't wait for later.
3. THEY SUDDENLY WANT TO SETTLE EVERYTHING — DEBTS, FORGIVENESS, PROPERTY.
They call people they have not called for years to ask for forgiveness.
They start sharing their property: "This car should go to... If anything happens..."
They pay debts quickly, or beg to be forgiven for debts.
They give away precious things.
That urgency to put house in order is often a sign their heart knows what their mouth cannot say.
Help them do it peacefully. Don't accuse them of "you are planning to die." Help them find peace with God and with men.
4. THEY HAVE UNUSUAL DREAMS, VISIONS, OR TALK ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIED BEFORE THEM.
They say "I saw mama who died 10 years ago, she said she is waiting for me." Or "I keep seeing a light, a beautiful place."
As Christians, we know death for a believer is going home. 2 Corinthians 5:8 — "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
If they are born again, this can be comfort — God preparing them. If they are not born again, it's URGENT time to lead them to Jesus.
Don't mock it. Don't say "you are dreaming too much." Pray for them, lead them to salvation, let them confess Jesus as Lord now — Romans 10:9.
5. YOUR OWN SPIRIT IS HEAVILY BURDENED TO PRAY FOR THEM AND BE CLOSE TO THEM.
Sometimes God will not show them, He will show YOU — their Pastor, their child, their close friend.
You suddenly cannot sleep because you are thinking of them. You feel heavy in prayer. You have a strong urge to call them, visit them.
Don't ignore that burden. That is intercession. That is love.
Obey it. Call them today. Visit them today. Pray for them face to face. Tell them you love them. Tell them about Jesus again.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU NOTICE THESE?
- Don't pronounce death on them. Only God knows the number of our days — Psalm 139:16. Your job is to love, not to curse.
- Get medical help immediately. Many signs look like end-of-life but are treatable sickness — low blood, infection, depression. Don't replace hospital with prophecy.
- Make peace. If there is quarrel, forgive now. If there is something to say, say it now.
- Lead them to Jesus. The most important question is not WHEN they will die, but WHERE they will go. Ensure they are truly born again.
- Pray for mercy. God can still extend life. Hezekiah was told he would die, he prayed, and God added 15 years — Isaiah 38. Prayer can change a verdict.
I have seen people show all these signs and still live for many years because someone prayed, and medical help came.
So don't walk around afraid. Walk around loving more intentionally.
Call that mother today. Visit that father today. Forgive that brother today.
Because whether they die now or in 30 years, love will never be wasted.
